About

Right outside Leiden's central station, Café Visscher on Stationsweg 7 is the kind of place you walk into before you've even thought about it. Chef Arie Visscher runs a French bistro kitchen rooted in seasonal produce and straightforward flavour — and the accolades back it up: a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a Gault&Millau score of 13.5/20, and a place in the 2026 Lekker Top 500.

Visscher's own motto is something close to 'seriously good food and drink, no fuss' — but the kitchen reaches further than that phrase might suggest. The cooking is classically French in approach, balanced and precise, while the setting stays relaxed and welcoming. Guests who want to raise the stakes can do so with optional extras like foie gras or caviar.

A Google rating of 4.7 across 323 reviews speaks to consistent guest satisfaction. Lunch and dinner are both worthwhile; the terrace is available for outdoor dining, vegetarian options are on the menu, and reservations can be made in advance.

Book a table at Café Visscher and taste why it's one of Leiden's most decorated bistros.
